There are a range of different PIVOTA 3D concealed hinges all with similar traits however each one can be used for a range of applications with their own benefits. In this blog we explore how easily a PIVOTA 3D hinge can be adjusted to solve any fitting problems you may have.

Why Choose Concealed Hinges

There are many benefits to a concealed hinge, one being in the name. The fact that these hinges are concealed and hidden means your exterior design and aesthetics are unaffected. These tamperproof hinges have a smooth self-close and ‘stay closed’ action which requires no additional hardware, unlike other hinges.

Concealed hinges are ideal for many uses from premium finish domestic use through to high traffic commercial environments. Doors cannot be slammed with these hinges due to their quiet-closing feature making them ideal for use in locations where loud noise is a concern. This also extends the concealed hinge operating lifespan.

Technical Details

PIVOTA concealed hinges, per pair, have a maximum door weight of between 40kg and 300kg making them an extremely durable and reliable hinge choice.

They have an abnormally small body dimension which, paired with a high load capacity, allows users to make full advantage of the hinge’s capability even in cases where rebate depths are narrow and panel breadths are limited, without hindering aesthetics.

Adjusting a PIVOTA 3D Concealed Hinge

With all that said, the greatest benefit of a concealed hinge is their fully adjustable capability which allows for perfect alignment, effortlessly customisable to meet your needs. When hinges are adjusted, only the positioning of the door is affected leaving the hinges joint mechanics totally untouched. This ensure high precision for daily, continuous operation.

You can adjust your PIVOTA concealed hinges by using a hex key. We would recommend putting a wedge underneath the door to hold it in place during any kind of adjustment.

Vertical Adjustment

For a concealed hinge vertical adjustment start by removing hinge caps to reach necessary spindles.

Loosen the clamping on the 4 screws positioned at the top and bottom on the hinge side attached to the door. The spindles can be loosened by turning the hex key in quarter turns either way until you reach the right height adjustment. The height can be adjusted by 3mm in both directions.

Adjust until you are satisfied with the positioning, height and alignment of the door. To retighten, simply secure the fixing screws until you feel your hinge has returned to a steady position and place the hinge caps back as they were to complete the job.

Horizontal Adjustment

For a concealed hinge horizontal adjustment, remove the hinge caps. Turn the spindles on the side of the hinge secured to the wall in a clockwise direction to move the door in the direction of the lock or anti clockwise to move the door closer towards the hinge. One turn equates to 1mm of movement, either up or down. The rabbet clearance can be adjusted by 3mm in both directions.

Avoid turning the two spindles aggressively and unevenly as there can be misalignment of the hinge. If the adjusting spindle is too tight slightly loosen the fixing screws by approximately 1 turn and then turn the spindles.

When you are satisfied with the new height positioning of the door, retighten the fixing screws until the unit is secure again and place the hinge caps back on as they were before the adjustment.

Depth Adjustment

In order to adjust the depth of the hinge, work from the side of the hinge attached to the main body of the wall or cabinet. Loosen the fixing screws so the spindles can be adjusted.

When ready, begin turning the screw on the middle of the hinge either clockwise or anti clockwise so the door leaf can be adjusted in the direction of the seal or away from it. Move the door leaf into the desired direction, the adjustable range is 2mm in the direction of the seal and 1 mm in the opposite direction.

Reach your desired position depth and finish by tightening the fixing screws so all is safe and secure. Don’t forget to put the hinge caps back on for a more aesthetic, compact look.
